A story about me
Two very important events in my life happened very close together. I finished my PhD, by defending my dissertation July 6, 2006. That’s not a point of bragging. It’s just that I spent 6 long years working on my PhD (with a Master’s degree already in hand before that 6 years). Just count me as really slow or something. Anyways, it was nice to close that chapter of my life. Defending my dissertation 31 weeks pregnant was interesting. Then in September, also the month of my birthday, I gave birth to my first child. Nothing went as planned. What was supposed ot be an induced vaginal birth, ended in an emergency C-section. My daughter spent the first ten days of her life in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). She was a term baby; in fact, I was induced several days after my due date. She looked . . . well, so weak, so fragile, so helpless, when I first laid eyes on her. Today, no one would ever know that she came very close to going to heaven before even living much of a life. She’s our little blessing.
